MunKuoro/MinKör activities in a nutshell

The MunKuoro/MinKör network connects open, non-auditioned children's and youth choirs across Finland, offering shared activities, support, and collaboration. The aim is to make singing accessible to all children and young people, regardless of background or experience, and to promote wellbeing, community, and the joy of singing.

The network is coordinated nationally by the Finnish Youth Choir Association (MunKuoro) and DUNK - The Youth's Music Association in Swedish Finland (MinKör), supported by an annually appointed steering group of choral and project management professionals.

You can start a new MunKuoro or MinKör in your area or integrate an existing choir into the network. All choirs joining the MunKuoro/MinKör network must adhere to MunKuoro/MinKör values and principles:

1. The choir is open to all children and young people.

All children and young people are welcome to join the choir, regardless of skill level, religion, or background. There are no auditions, and no prior musical experience is required. MunKuoro or MinKör respects diverse backgrounds, religions, and cultures. Participation in the choir may include a hobby fee.

2. The choir teaches singing skills.

Enjoying one's own singing voice and discovering the joy of singing are key aspects of MunKuoro or MinKör. Singing is a skill that can be learned and developed, and it belongs to everyone. The MunKuoro/MinKör network supports choir leaders in teaching singing.

3. Every voice matters in the choir.

Choir members have a say in the repertoire and activities of their choir. The MunKuoro/MinKör network is continuously improved based on the feedback from both choir members and conductors.

4. The choir fosters teamwork skills.

Participants learn communality, respectful interaction, appreciation of diversity, leadership skills, emotional expression, and self-expression. MunKuoro or MinKör members commit to shared goals.

5. You are not alone in the MunKuoro/MinKör network.

The MunKuoro/MinKör network is developed together. Members take part in various meetings, challenges, competitions, and training sessions. Being part of MunKuoro or MinKör means engaging in shared experiences and collective activities.

Membership

MunKuoro membership fee is €50 for the first school year and €80 per year thereafter. MinKör membership is free of charge.
